Mission saw Van Mook this morning after which Schuurman informed
me no decision would be given on representation to Djocjakarta and
Republican representative proceeding to Canberra until Saturday
earliest.

Have pressed as far as possible for decisions and no opportunity
discuss matter personally with Van Mook until after my return from
Djocjakarta. [2]

Also informed by Schuurman that appointment of American
Representative on Committee of Three not yet definite and N.E.I.

authorities consider information concerning their aims etc. should
be given to 3 representatives together direct by The Hague.

Am of opinion Dutch will use delaying tactics and after-wards
press for quick decision as with consular mission.

1 Dispatched on 24 September, it reported, inter alia, that Eaton
was continuing to press the Dutch authorities in Batavia for
decisions regarding Australian representation at Djokjakarta and
for visits by Dutch and Indonesian representatives to Australia.

2 Members of the Consular Commission including Eaton visited
Djokjakarta on 26-27 September. A record of the Commission's
formal discussions with Sjarifuddin on 26 September is given in
United Nations, Security Council Official Records, Second Year,
Special Supplement No.4, pp.71-89.
