Official intimation received King of Italy will consider himself
at war with Great Britain and France as from midnight tonight. [2]
1 The copy cited was numbered D38. The copy on file AA: A1608,
M41/1/1, however, was numbered C38 and this appears to be correct.
2 Formal notification that war had broken out with Italy was
received in U.K. Dominions Secretary's cablegram C39, dispatched
at 1.12 a.m. on 11 June 1940 (on file AA: A981, Italy 31, iii).
