Description

AusAID commissioned an independent review of Australian aid program support for strengthening political governance in developing countries.

The review:

• confirms the importance of robust parliamentary and electoral processes in building effective relationships between states and citizens
• outlines key findings and issues on Australia's assistance to political governance and makes recommendations relating to support for parliaments, political parties and electoral processes
• assesses the role, mandate and work of the Centre for Democratic Institutions (CDI), including recommendations relating to its future role, and
• provides guiding principles to inform future AusAID political governance work.
