This document details the design for delivery of Australian assistance to the Fiji health sector from 2011 to 2015, including analysis, program description, and implementation and management arrangements.

The design is for a program to improve maternal and child health outcomes, strengthen diabetes prevention and management, and revitalise primary health care. It has five objectives:

  • decentralise delivery of safe motherhood programs
  • institutionalise a 'healthy child' program throughout Fiji
  • decentralise delivery of diabetes and hypertension services
  • revitalise village/community health workers' network so communities can easily access health services
  • improve key components of Fiji's health system for decentralised service delivery (especially planning and management capacity in information, research, service standards and performance monitoring).
