Global growth forecast again revised lower, to 2.4%

Global growth of 2.4% is forecast for 2016, down from the original forecast of 2.9% in January. Notably, the World Bank forecasts China to grow at 6.7%, following 6.9% last year, while India is expected to hold firm at 7.6%. Brazil and Russia are projected to fall deeper into recession than originally forecast.

Riding the clean energy wave

Australia's Carnegie Wave Energy has successfully built and operated the world's first commercial-scale wave energy array connected to the power grid. Capturing attention from customers worldwide, Carnegie Wave Energy has now set up subsidiaries in both the UK and Ireland and has also signed a licensing deal to allow its technology to be used by Électricité De France, "the world's biggest power company."

Asia leads the way in strong visitor arrivals growth

Australia is proving to be a popular destination for our international visitors from Japan, with April 2016 arrival numbers up by 47%, compared to the same time last year. Chinese visitor numbers also grew by 33%, while the US saw just over 18% of growth. For the year ending April 2016, total international arrivals down under reached 7.7 million.
