Launch of policy consultations on a possible Geographical Indications right
The Australian Government is seeking the views of Australian producers, businesses and consumers on possible reforms to Australia’s legislative framework for the protection of geographical indications (GIs). The consultation process commenced on 4 September 2020 and will run through to 30 November 2020,
Reforms would be required should Australia agree to protect GI terms as part of a free trade agreement with the European Union (EU). Commencing a policy consultation process does not mean the Australian Government has agreed or will agree to make any changes to its existing GI regulatory framework or policy.
Details on the consultation process and how to engage are available IP Australia - Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement: Consultation on a Possible New Geographical Indications Right.
Information on the public consultation process is available in Greek and Italian.
