Government and business: partners in response and recovery
A strong partnership with business is enhancing the Australian Government's response to the COVID-19 crises.
Austrade, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Tourism Australia work closely with Australian businesses at home and abroad to identify, and help them recover from, COVID-19 disruptions.
Since January 2020, Austrade, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Tourism Australia have met weekly with peak industry bodies. This is in addition to the frequent consultations with businesses undertaken by our diplomatic network and state and territory offices.
DFAT has a dedicated unit to help businesses with ongoing recovery efforts, engaging with over 50 companies to date.
These relationships proved invaluable as policy makers sought to understand and comprehensively respond to a rapidly changing situation. The real-time insights from businesses helped ensure policies were targeted and timely.
The Government has also been inspired by stories of businesses innovating, seizing new opportunities, and supporting the broader community during the crisis.
Through these consultations the Government is now providing global market intelligence updates direct to business so they can better navigate fast-moving disruptions.
