Sports Diplomacy 2030

Sports Diplomacy Advisory Council

In February 2019, the Government launched Australia's new international Sports Diplomacy 2030 strategy. The strategy aims to capitalise on our national sporting excellence on and off the field, for the benefit of our local athletes, sporting organisations and regional partners.

To help implement the strategy, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, established the Sports Diplomacy Advisory Council, chaired by Mrs Josephine Sukkar AM.

The 13-member Council is made up of former sporting champions, senior sports administrators and sports media representatives.

Council members provide advice to the Government on opportunities to promote Australian sporting expertise internationally. They will help to promote Australia's work in sports diplomacy, especially with Australia’s partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
