Sports Diplomacy 2030
Following the expiry of the Australian Sports Diplomacy Strategy 2015-18, a world first, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, together with the Office for Sport, Tourism Australia, Sports Australia and Austrade, developed the new sports diplomacy strategy - Sports Diplomacy 2030. The Strategy is based on consultation with the Australian sports industry.
Sports Diplomacy 2030 was launched on 1 February 2019 by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, The Hon. Marise Payne, the Minister for Sport, the Hon. Bridget McKenzie, and the Assistant Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Senator the Hon. Anne Ruston.
Sports Diplomacy 2030 envisages closer collaboration between the Australian sports codes, industry and government to leverage the nation's sporting excellence in ways that enhance Australia's influence and reputation and advance our national interests.
To help deliver these goals the strategy is organised around four strategic priority areas:
- Empower Australian sport to represent Australia globally
- Build linkages with our neighbours
- Maximise trade, tourism and investment opportunities
- Strengthen communities in the Indo-Pacific
