Dr Angela Macdonald PSM
Angela is currently First Assistant Secretary in the Middle East and Africa Division at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Prior to taking up this position, Angela was Assistant Secretary in the International Division, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
She has been a career officer in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, most recently serving as Deputy High Commissioner at the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. She has had previous postings in Kabul, Brussels and Wellington. In Canberra, Angela’s roles have included Assistant Secretary of the Parliamentary and Media Branch in DFAT, Executive Officer to the Secretary of PM&C and Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr Downer).
Angela received the Public Service Medal for her work in leading DFAT’s Emergency Response Team in Kyiv following the downing of MH17.
Angela has Honours Degrees in Arts and Law and a PhD in History from the University of Sydney, and a Masters in Law from Victoria University of Wellington (NZ).
