Project description

Two symposia will be held at the ASAJ conference at the University of Kitakyushu on 13–14 June 2020. The first session, 'Trans-border dialogue in environmental studies' will feature a multidisciplinary panel addressing environmental concerns. Professor Anthony (Tony) Birch (Victoria University) will be invited as the keynote speaker; other guest speakers are Professor Akira Haraguchi (University of Kitakyushu), Professor Hironobu Kan (Kyushu University), and a representative of the city of Kitakyushu. Two discussants and one moderator will join the session. The second session, 'Multicultural symbiotic society in Japan: Lessons from Australia', will include discussions on multiculturalism in Japan in reference to recent immigration policies and settlement services in Australia. The panel includes Takeshi Hamano (University of Kitakyushu), Shinsuke Funaki (Fukui Prefectural University), Yasufumi Moritani (Hokkaido University of Education), and Kyoko Mori (Bunkyo University). Three other practitioners acting for foreign residents in Japan will be invited.
