Australia-Japan Symposium on sustainable SME trade expansion
Sector: Economic Diplomacy, Trade, Business
Country location: Australia, Japan
Grantee: Queensland University of Technology
Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA) is an important bilateral free trade agreement aimed at expanding trade and investment in a mutually beneficial manner. While a laudable goal by governments, to be successful, it needs the active participation of firms within the countries to realise the benefits. In particular, greater participation by Small to Medium Sized Enterprise (SMEs) as they represent the backbone of both the Australian and Japanese economies. Therefore, there is an urgent need to increase the number of SMEs tapping into overseas markets.
The aim of the proposed the Symposium to be held in Brisbane, Australia at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is to provide a forum for trade facilitators, future business leaders and (SME) owners and managers, academics from Australia and Japan to come together to learn and share experiences about effective means of doing business in each other's countries in a sustainable (long-lived) manner.
