Australia-India Council Strategic Plan 2020-2023

The Australia‐India Council (AIC) is a non‐statutory body sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).  AIC Board members are appointed by the Australian Government to strengthen connections between Australia and India, and provide advice to government on the opportunities and vulnerabilities in the relationship. Project funds are available through highly competitive grants as part of the International Relations Grant Program.

Mission

The AIC’s mission is to advance Australia’s foreign and trade policy interests by building awareness and understanding between the peoples and institutions of Australia and India (Order Constituting the Australia‐ India Council, 6 May 2010).

Objectives

The AIC will initiate and support activities that deliver on the Australian Government’s economic and strategic priorities for the bilateral relationship with India, including:

  • critical technology;
  • critical minerals;
  • energy; and
  • climate change.

Priority Considerations

To achieve these objectives, the AIC gives priority to projects that:

  • support the Australian Government’s economic and strategic priorities for the bilateral relationship with India, including on critical technology; critical minerals; energy; and climate change;
  • support the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including the India Economic Strategy; and
  • support the AIC’s Mission.

Performance

We measure performance through the key performance indicators included in all successful AIC grant applications. The outcomes of our programs and events will be published regularly on the AIC’s website, through social media engagement.

Key performance indicators include:

  • Increased collaboration between Australian and Indian organisations reflective of Australian Government priorities on critical technology, critical minerals, energy and climate change.
