Geoscience Australia Letter of Understanding on Mining and Natural Resources

Sri Lanka's possesses a significant variety of natural resources. Found across the country, they range from precious stones to industrial minerals such as graphite and ilmenite. Sri Lanka's mining industry holds promise as an important sector in its growing economy.

Australia is a world leader in the mining and natural resources sector, from mapping to resource policy and finally extraction. To allow the Sri Lankan government to capitalise on these resources, they are collaborating with Geoscience Australia, Australia's pre-eminent public sector geoscience organisation.

Through the agreement, Geoscience Australia will work with the Sri Lankan Geological Survey and Mines Bureau to strengthen their mapping capacity, unlocking these resources for the benefit of all Sri Lankans. The partnership involves the sharing of scientific and technical information, the possible hosting of study visits and scientists and the collaboration on individual research activities.
