Humanitarian assistance to Yemen

On 3 April 2018, the Australian Government announced an additional $3 million package of life-saving assistance in response to the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen.

TThis increases Australia's direct humanitarian assistance to Yemen to $23 million since April 2017.

Over the past three years, Australia has also provided $350 million to UN humanitarian agencies, to respond to crises around the world, including Yemen. For example, Australia contributed $33 million to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (UNCERF) over the past three years. During this time, UNCERF spent $90 million to support civilians affected by the crisis in Yemen.

Australia's latest contribution will help affected communities by providing food and nutrition support for malnourished children, health care and access to clean water. It will help treat over 16,000 children under five for severe acute malnutrition, vaccinate over 320,000 children against polio and provide over 335,000 people with access to drinking water.

Australia continues to work closely with other donors, countries in the region and humanitarian partners to ensure the safe passage of aid to the most vulnerable people.
