South Australia State Director, Mr Alex Brooking
Alex Brooking is a career diplomat in the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with over 39 years of experience in foreign, strategic and trade policy and with a focus for much of this time on European affairs.
Alex Brooking is currently serving as Director of the South Australia State Office, a position he has held since February 2012. Prior to this appointment he was Ambassador to Hungary (2007-2011). His other overseas assignments have included Moscow (2003-2006), Brussels (1996), Berlin (2000-2003), as well as earlier diplomatic postings in Budapest, Bonn, Lagos and Warsaw.
In Canberra, Mr Brooking has held the positions of Director for Western Europe, Director for Russia, Director for Northern, Central and Eastern Europe and Director for the European Union.
Educated at Macquarie University in Sydney, Mr Brooking holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Diploma of Education.
Mr Brooking is 61 years of age and is married with two children. He speaks German, French, Russian and Polish and is acquainted with Hungarian.
