New leadership to take Australia-Latin America relations forward
Alberto Calderon, incoming Chair, and Christina Talacko, new member, are pleased to take up their appointments on the Board of the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR).
Mr Calderon has extensive links to the business community in both Australia and Latin America. Currently Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Orica Limited (since May 2015) he is also former Group and Chief Executive of BHP and Chief Executive Officer of Cerrejón Coal Company and Ecopetrol, Colombia. During his career Alberto has been a Board member of a range of private, public and non-government organisations. He holds a PhD in Economics, a Master of Philosophy in Economics and a Master of Economics from Yale University, and a Juris Doctor in Law and Bachelor of Economics from Andes University in Colombia.
Ms Talacko is a founder and Managing Director of SalDoce Fine Foods, an Australian family-owned company and winner of the NSW Premier’s Export Awards in 2016 and 2018. She has held the positions of President of the Australia-Brazil Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chair NSW of the Australia Latin America Business Council.
They join the five current Members – Valeria Alvano Toloza, Natalie Collard, Robyn Eversole, Nigel Warren and Rob Whiddon.
COALAR’s activities implement innovative approaches and solutions to increase engagement, networks and sustainable collaborations between Australia and Latin America. The Council supports activities with clear outcomes and broad benefits likely to prove self-sustaining. Its activities include a competitive annual grant round to capable Australian and Latin American organisations. It also works to strengthen business, education, sustainability, tourism and cultural links between our people.
