Somalia
On 23 January 1992 the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted resolution 733 (1992) imposing sanctions in relation to Somalia in response to the deterioration of the conflict in Somalia, the heavy loss of life and the widespread material damage resulting from the conflict, which the Security Council considered a threat to international peace and security. The sanctions imposed in relation to Somalia have been modified and extended by a number of subsequent UNSC resolutions.
As a consequence, Australian law now prohibits the following conduct:
1. The unauthorised supply, sale or transfer to Somalia of weapons and military equipment.

2. The unauthorised provision to Somalia of:
- financing for the acquisition or delivery of goods subject to export sanctions;
- technical advice, financial and other assistance, and training related to military activities.

3. The supply of weapons and military equipment to a person or entity listed by the Security Council or the Committee (PDF) established pursuant to resolution 751 (the 751 Committee)
