Australia's trade highlights 2007-08

The value of Australian produced exports rose by 8.6 per cent in 2007-08 to $234.3 billion, according to the DFAT latest analysis of trade data.

Exports of primary products, elaborately transformed manufactures and services were all higher during the period, but exports of simply transformed manufactures fell slightly.

The rise in Australia's exports was more than offset by an 11.5 per cent rise in imports during the financial year which was underpinned by robust domestic consumption and investment. As a result, the trade deficit increased by $7.9 billion to $20.6 billion.
