Market access assistance

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is available to assist industry improve its export performance by addressing market access barriers and other trade-related concerns. DFAT pursues industry's market access interests on a bilateral, regional and multilateral basis making full use of all appropriate government resources including DFAT's overseas network.

Firms with concerns about international trade barriers should contact DFAT to discuss the best way to proceed. DFAT can provide information on foreign import regimes and, where appropriate, can arrange to make bilateral representations to foreign governments. At a regional level, DFAT participates in APEC forums established to advance market integration in the Asia-Pacific region. At a multilateral level, the rules governing international trade under the World Trade Organisation offer industry an opportunity to pursue its market access concerns at a global level. We would be pleased to brief interested companies on trade policy issues and developments bearing on their industry.

DFAT liaises with industry to establish priorities and welcomes advice on market access problems that companies within their sector are experiencing. Information provided by individual companies will be treated on a commercial-in-confidence basis. DFAT draws on Australia's global network of overseas posts and other Departmental resources to assist exporters. DFAT also works closely with other Government agencies and can put exporters in touch with the full range of business services available from the Government.
