World Trade Organization (WTO)
WTO Doha Round Bulletin
Week ending 10 September 2004 (Issue 2004/30)
This bulletin, summarising key WTO Doha Round-related activities, is issued by the Office of Trade Negotiations, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Key Issues
Input on trade in services sought
In the July Framework Package WTO Members established May 2005 as the date for lodgement of improved offers in trade in services. Australia aims to submit a revised services offer by this date. In preparation, officials have begun a series of domestic consultations with the dual aims of prioritising Australia's requests of trading partners for improved market access for Australian services exporters and identifying areas where Australia can make an improved offer by the May 2005 deadline.
Consultations with government, industry and non-government organisation stakeholders in all States and Territories have begun. This week productive consultations were held in Brisbane. Officials plan to follow up with more detailed discussions with all stakeholders in the coming months.
In order to further develop the Australian approach to the next phase of services negotiations, stakeholders are requested to provide comments or written submissions no later than 6 December 2004. Comments can be submitted to:
