Following the successful launch of negotiations towards an Environmental Goods Agreement on 8 July, the first round of negotiations took place in Geneva on 9-10 July. The focus of the first round was initial consideration of the framework and structure of the negotiations.
During the first round, participants held productive discussions on the structure of the negotiations, including ways to build on the APEC list and to ensure the environmental credibility of product nominations. Participants also considered technical issues relating to product nominations, including HS nomenclature.
In line with the open nature of the Environmental Goods Agreement, participants also discussed how best to welcome the entry of new like-minded members into the discussions.
The second round will be held in Geneva in September.
