Australia concludes Southeast Asia trade deal

Minister for Trade Simon Crean has announced that Australia has concluded negotiations for the region-wide ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA).  The final negotiations were conducted by Ministers of the 10 ASEAN countries, Australia and New Zealand at the 13th AEM-CER meeting in Singapore on 28 August 2008 .  The agreement - the most comprehensive ever signed by ASEAN - covers goods and services, investment, intellectual property, competition policy and economic cooperation, amongst other issues.  Australia's two-way trade with ASEAN was $71 billion in 2007.
