10th AEM-CER Consultations
Australia, ASEAN and New Zealand ministers met on 29 September 2005 to discuss developments since the launch of FTA negotiations in February. They were attending the 10th annual ASEAN Economic Ministers - Closer Economic Relations (AEM-CER) meeting in Laos.
Australia welcomed the steady progress achieved to date on the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement negotiations. Australia urged ASEAN to be as ambitious as possible in eliminating tariffs and opening up services markets. However, Australia acknowledged the challenge of negotiations involving 12 countries of differing levels of development.
