Review of Export Policies and Programs
Letter from the Chair of the Panel
I am pleased to invite you to contribute to this important Review of Export Policies and Programs that has been initiated by the Australian Government.
The Review will be a comprehensive examination of export policies and programs. It will assess the factors behind the recent underperformance of Australia’s exports and make recommendations on future policies and programs to promote exports and investment flows, develop export capacity and enhance Australia’s international competitiveness.
The Review will also examine foreign direct investment into Australia and Australian direct investment abroad to develop a better understanding of the evolving relationship between trade and investment.
A particular focus of the Review will be on how to construct a more strategic, whole-of-government approach to advancing Australia’s international economic and commercial interests.
The Review will investigate the future operation of the Export Market Development Grants scheme. As part of the Review, a group of experts is overseeing research on Australia’s approach to the negotiation of free trade agreements.
Attached to this call for submissions is an issues paper that provides context and information. The paper also poses a number of key questions on which we are inviting consideration and comment.
In May and June, the Review Panel intends to follow up on the submissions received by holding a series of stakeholder consultations.
To register your interest in the Review or to seek more information, email trade.review@dfat.gov.au.
Yours sincerely
