Review of Export Policies and Programs
On 21 February 2008 the Minister for Trade, the Hon Simon Crean, announced a comprehensive Review of Australia's Export Policies and Programs to be conducted by Mr David Mortimer AO together with Dr John Edwards.
The Review will assess Australia’s export and investment performance. It will make recommendations on future policies and programs to promote exports and investment flows, develop export capacity and enhance Australia’s international competitiveness.
The Review is considering issues such as:
- structural and supply-side factors affecting exports
- trade negotiations and market access issues
- issues associated with international business development
- export development programs and services
- financing exports
- investment promotion and facilitation, and
- the effectiveness of government resources deployed to advance the trade agenda.
Research on free trade agreements is being undertaken as part of the Review, and is being overseen by a Reference Panel.
The Review will also incorporate a detailed examination of the Export Market Development Grants Scheme.
The Review Panel is due to deliver its report to the Minister by 31 August.
The Review Panel intends to consult widely with stakeholders. Interested parties are invited to make submissions to the Review Panel and a Key Issues Paper has been released to guide input.
The Key Issues Paper and other information for stakeholders interested in contributing to the Review is available under the ‘Resources’ tab on this page.
