Review of Export Policies and Programs

On 2 September 2008 the Minister for Trade, Simon Crean, received the Review of Export Policies and Programs undertaken by Mr David Mortimer AO and Dr John Edwards.

The report will play a key role in shaping the direction of Australia’s export policies and programs. The report also evaluates the Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme along with the role that free trade agreements can play in opening up new export market opportunities for Australian business.

The Review received over 160 written submissions and held consultations with over 170 organisations and individuals in all state and territory capitals.

It is anticipated that the Review report will be released publicly later this month. The EMDG assessment will be tabled in Parliament, as required by legislation.

Mr Crean will deliver the Government’s response to the Review later in the year as part of a statement on Australia’s future trade policy directions and priorities.
