Employment Conditions
Salary
Corporate and Financial Management Trainees begin work at the APS 4.1 level. The starting salary in 2009 will be $54,503.00. Trainees are also entitled to 22 days annual leave, sick leave and long-service leave provisions, and superannuation benefits. Corporate and Financial Management Trainees also participate in the department's performance appraisal system, which rewards excellent performance on an annual basis. Full details of the department's conditions of service and performance management system can be found in our Collective Agreement. A new agreement is currently being negotiated.
Advancement in the department is on the basis of annual performance reviews and formal promotion processes.
Conduct and Ethics
Working in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade requires the highest standards of conduct in Australia and overseas. Ethical conduct by employees contributes significantly to efficiency and effectiveness in the workplace and to the standing of the department and its employees in Australia and internationally. In implementing the Certified Agreement and undertaking their duties, employees are required to uphold the Australian Public Service (APS) Values and comply with the APS Code of Conduct as enshrined in the Public Service Act 1999. Employees also need to comply with the department's Code of Conduct for Overseas Service, which takes account of the particular significance of the department's representational role outside Australia.
