The department has an extensive training program aimed to equip its entire staff with the skills they need to operate effectively in the workplace. It runs a wide range of courses for its officers in the areas of:
- leadership and management training, including financial and human resource management
- general skills training - such as writing, negotiation, media awareness, meeting management and presentation skills
- department-specific training on subjects such as trade policy and human rights
We also provide specific training for staff posted overseas, including language training for some staff being posted to non-English speaking countries.
The department may also provide study assistance for its staff to improve or expand their skills through relevant tertiary studies.
