China: Stern Hu Consular Case: Trial

The trial of Stern Hu and his three Chinese co-accused commenced this morning, 22 March, with a hearing into a charge of receiving bribes.

Mr Hu was accused of receiving two amounts: one of RMB1 million (A$160,000 approx.) and another of US$790,000 (A$865,000 approx.). Mr Hu has made some admissions concerning these amounts.

The trial is continuing and as a consequence we are not in a position to say anything further at this point. The Australian Government will make a considered statement at the conclusion of the trial processes.
