EXPORTS OF PRIMARY AND MANUFACTURED PRODUCTSThe Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has today released the latest edition of its publication Exports of Primary and Manufactured Products, Australia. This publication provides a comprehensive analysis of Australias merchandise exports based on DFATs own Trade Exports Classification (TREC) which focuses on the level of processing applied to Australian produce exports. Broad TREC commodity information on trade with Australias major trading partners and regional groupings is also available for both imports and exports. Highlights of trade in 1997 include a 10 per cent increase in the value of Australian produce exports to almost $81 billion. While primary products continue to dominate Australias export base, at 62 per cent of total exports, manufactures have increased their share to 30 per cent from only 22 per cent a decade ago. Also included in the 1997 issue are feature articles on the causes of the economic crisis in East Asia and its impact on Australias merchandise trade to the end of February 1998. Copies of this publication can be purchased, for $40, by
contacting the Market Information and Analysis Unit on: The latest available information on the East Asian economic crisis is also available under Hot Issues on the Departmental website at http://www.dfat.gov.au |
