Metallic Finish to Financial Year’s Exports
Higher metal ores and minerals prices contributed to an improved resources sector performance in the June quarter 2006, with minerals and fuels exports up five per cent in value to $17.4 billion. A strong rise in metal alloy prices also boosted manufactures exports (up five per cent) with exports of metals up 14 per cent during the June quarter 2006.
Overall, the value of Australia’s exports of goods and services rose to $51.3 billion in June quarter 2006, a six per cent rise in seasonally adjusted terms. In the 2005-06 financial year exports were 17 per cent higher at over $190 billion.
The export results are contained in the Spring 2006 issue of Trade Topics: A Quarterly Review of Australia’s International Trade, released today by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
The Spring 2006 issue of Trade Topics features analysis of key bilateral agreements and emerging trends. Australia’s trade with the United States over the last 10 years is discussed. Positive trends are also highlighted, including the implementation of the AUSFTA, the expansion of bilateral trade and investment since the inception of the Australia-New Zealand Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement; ASEAN’s vision for the ‘ASEAN Economic Community’ and Australia’s manufacturing and services exports.
Trade Topics brings together a range of statistical information produced by Australian government agencies and international organisations, together with analysis of the latest trade developments. The publication includes quarterly and annual data on Australia’s trade in goods and services by commodity, market, level of processing, and State and Territory as well as selected macroeconomic, commodity price and investment information.
