Education: Principals’ visit to ROK
In 2010, the Korean Education Centre and UNSW coordinated a visit by 15 Australian school principals to South Korea. Principals visited schools and businesses and met education officials. The visit helped build valuable networks and expand Korean-language programs. "The visit was a career highlight, and energised my commitment to Australia-Asia education." Glenn Butler, Principal, Ormond Primary School, VIC.
Space: Telescopes and black holes
In March 2012, Australia and South Korea linked their radio telescopes for the first time, forming a gigantic telescope more than 8,000 kilometres across. The telescopes targeted a galaxy 3.5 billion light years away and combined signals using a technique that will underlie the international mega-scope, the Square Kilometre Array.
PSI Eastern Endeavour exercises
In 2010 and 2012, South Korea hosted the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) Eastern Endeavour exercises. The exercises help to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, their delivery systems and related materials. As a founding member of the PSI, Australia has welcomed the opportunity to work alongside South Korea to strengthen global anti-proliferation efforts.
