Australian surf lifesaving in Japan
With funding from the Australia-Japan Foundation, Surf Life Saving Australia travelled to Japan in 1983 to train Japanese lifesavers. Today, Japanese lifesavers continue to follow Australian techniques and regularly participate in Australian competitions. Shimoda Life Saving Club and Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club have held a surf lifesaver exchange program every year since 1997.
