‘Balgo: Contemporary Australian Art from the Balgo Hills’

[Painting: Balgo – tjungurrayi and nangala, Artbank]
A riot of colour and energy, Balgo explores the stories, lives and history of the Kukatya language speakers in the Balgo Hills, Western Australia. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in conjunction with the Commonwealth art repository, Artbank, is proud to tour this exciting exhibition throughout its global network of diplomatic missions.
Having commenced its international debut with a tour of South-East Asia and the Pacific, visiting five posts, the exhibition’s onward touring schedule will take it to other Asian destinations, including China in 2010. Highlights to-date include the exhibition’s first international port of call, Port Moresby, where Balgo featured as the flagship event of Australia Week and was opened by Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.
