The 2008 Ubud Writers and Readers Festival will take place from 14-19 October 2008.  The theme of this year's festival is Tri Hita Karana - Man, Nature, God.  Significant Australian authors will be a feature of the festival, participating in panel sessions and speaking at various events. We are thrilled that Alexis Wright and Melina Marchetta will be participating in the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival as part of IN2OZ.

Melina will be sharing her experiences and expertise in panel sessions including:  ‘A Long Way from Home’, a discussion on geographical displacement in the 21st century; and how to attract young adults to reading and engender a lifelong passion for books in ‘The Future of Reading: Writing for Young People’.  Melina will also lead a workshop on fiction writing for teens, with a focus on building the creative writing skills of 15-18 year olds.

Alexis will share the podium with journalist and novelist Carrie Tiffany for an In Conversation with … session that is sure to be fascinating.  Alexis will also join two other panellists in a discussion of Indigenous spiritualities, focusing on how Indigenous communities view their lands and their efforts to bring social, ecological and spiritual concerns into balance.
