Mr David Binns

Biography
Prior to taking up his appointment as Consul-General in Honolulu, Mr Binns was Assistant Secretary in the Pacific Division, a position he held since January 2005. Overseas, he has served as High Commissioner to Sri Lanka from 2002-05. He has also been posted in Jakarta, as Counsellor from 1996-99 and First Secretary from 1990-92, and Hong Kong. In 2001 he participated in the Executive Program at the Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies in Honolulu.
In Canberra, Mr Binns has held a range of positions including Director, Indonesia Section (2001), Director, Defence and Intelligence Policy Section (1999-2000) and Director, East Asia Analytical Unit (1993-95).
Educated at Macquarie University and the University of Sydney, Mr Binns holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Economics degrees. Mr Binns is married with three children.
