Ms Caroline Millar Deputy Head of Mission, United States of America

Biography

Caroline Millar is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has been Deputy Head of Mission in Washington since January 2014.

Prior to taking up her current position, Ms Millar was the First Assistant Secretary, International Security Division. Her other positions in the Department in Canberra have included Head of the United Nations Security Council Taskforce (2010-2012) and Australian Ambassador for People Smuggling Issues (2003-05), a position she held concurrently with her position as First Assistant Secretary, International Organisations and Legal Division. Ms Millar was also seconded to the Australian Office of National Assessments as Senior Americas Analyst (1991-92).

Ms Millar has previously served overseas as the Ambassador the United Nations at Geneva and Ambassador for Disarmament (2006-2010), Acting Head of Mission at the Australian Mission to the United Nations in New York (2006), Counsellor, Australian Mission to the United Nations in New York (1995-1998), First Secretary, Washington (1989-1991) and Second Secretary, Hanoi (1985-1987).

Ms Millar holds a BA(Hons)/MA in History from the University of Cambridge.
