Mr Adam McCarthy
Deputy Head of Mission to United Kingdom
Mr Adam McCarthy has been Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom since April 2009.
A senior career officer, Mr McCarthy has previously served overseas as Counsellor (Trade Policy) at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC (2002-2006) and First Secretary (Political) at the Australian High Commission in Wellington (1996-99).
In Canberra, Mr McCarthy has worked in a range of positions primarily in the multilateral, trade, legal and arms control fields. Prior to commencing in his current role, Mr McCarthy was the Assistant Secretary, International Legal Branch (2006-2009).
Mr McCarthy holds Economics and Law (Hon) Degrees from the University of Sydney and graduate diplomas in Legal Practice (UT) and Foreign Affairs and Trade (Monash). Mr McCarthy is admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and practiced as a solicitor for a time prior to joining DFAT. Mr McCarthy is married with two children.
