Mr Evan Williams

High Commissioner to Cyprus

Biography

Mr Evan Williams is a career officer in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and, prior to his appointment to Cyprus, served as Director in the Post Security Task Force. Mr Williams has served overseas as Consul-General and Counsellor in London (1998-2002), Consul-General and Counsellor in Manila (1994-96) and Consul-General and Counsellor in Jakarta (1989-92). He has also served in Shanghai, Dar-es-Salaam, Bonn and Tehran. Mr Williams was the Administrator of the Territory of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands from 2003 until 2005.

In Canberra, Mr Williams has held a range of positions: Director Consular Operations 2005-2007, Director in the Overseas Property Office (2002-03), Director Management Strategy and Coordination Unit (1997-98), Director in the Trade Negotiation Division (1993-94) and Divisional Coordinator, Trade Negotiation Division (1992-93).

Educated at the Australian National University and the University of New England, Mr Williams holds Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Letters (M.Litt) degrees.

Mr Williams is married with two sons.
