Mr Tom Connor

Biography
Mr Connor is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and, prior to his appointment as Consul-General in Shanghai, was Assistant Secretary, North East Asia Branch. He has served overseas as Counsellor (Policy) in Tokyo (2003-06), Counsellor (Policy) in Beijing (1994-97) and as Vice-Consul, later Consul in Shanghai (1988-90).
Earlier roles in Canberra have included Ministerial Speechwriter (1998-2001), Director, China Bilateral Relations Section (1996-98), Director, Australia-Korea Foundation (1992-93) and Executive Officer, Australia-China Council (1990-91).
Mr Connor holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees from the Australian National University, a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University and a Master of Laws (International Law) from the Australian National University. He was admitted as Barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He is married with two sons. Mr Connor speaks Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese.
