Mr Wilcock is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). His earlier overseas assignments were to Washington and Jakarta, and with the team that established Australia's Embassy in East Timor. Before arriving in Bangladesh, Mr Wilcock worked in Canberra on Middle East policy, following almost three years as an adviser to the Hon. Stephen Smith MP, when Mr Smith was Australia's Foreign Minister and later Defence Minister.
Mr Wilcock studied politics and international relations at the Australian National University and Monash University. Mr Wilcock is married, and he and his wife have two young sons.
