Established: 10 July 1979 by a Convention signed by the 12 members of the then South Pacific Forum. The Convention entered into force for Australia on 13 October 1979.
Location: Honiara, Solomon Islands
Head of FFA: Director-General Mr Tanielu (Dan) Su’a
Aims: To enable member countries to benefit from the sustainable use of the region's tuna resources. The FFA is the key regional fisheries agency for the Pacific. The FFA gives technical assistance in the development of fisheries management policies and the negotiation of fisheries access agreements, and plays a key role in the collection of fees and the surveillance of exclusive economic zones.
Budget: AUD$13.7 million (2006/07)
Australian contribution: Australia provides core and program funding of $2.3 million annually.
Members: Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
Observers: American Samoa, French Polynesia, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
