Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific

CROP Website

Among its corporate objectives, the Forum Secretariat is charged with furthering the interests of the South Pacific by fostering cooperation and developing effective partnerships within the region. To this end, the South Pacific Forum established the South Pacific Organisations Coordinating Committee (SPOCC) in 1988. In 1999 SPOCC changed its name to the Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific (CROP).

CROP brings together ten regional inter-governmental agencies: the Pacific Community (formerly the South Pacific Commission), the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA), the South Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP), the South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC), the Pacific Island Development Program (PIDP), the South-Pacific.Travel (SPTO), the University of the South Pacific (USP), the Fiji School of Medicine (FSMed), the South Pacific Board for Educational Assessment (SPBEA) and the Pacific Power Association, in addition to the Forum Secretariat which acts as CROP’s permanent chair and provides secretariat support.

CROP’s main objective is to promote harmonisation and collaboration between member programs, and to avoid duplication of effort and resources.

The annual CROP meeting is normally held prior to the Pacific Islands Forum, but other meetings are also held throughout the year. Meetings are attended by the heads of all member organisations participating on a full and equal basis
