Australia-Chile Free Trade Agreement
Overview
The Australia-Chile Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is a significant market opening agreement which will result in the immediate reduction of tariffs on 97 per cent of goods currently traded. Tariffs on all existing merchandise trade between Australia and Chile will be eliminated by 2015.
The Australia-Chile FTA entered into force on 6 March 2009.

New opportunities under the FTA
The Australia-Chile FTA eliminates immediately Chile's tariffs on almost 92 per cent of tariff lines covering 97 per cent of goods currently traded. This includes Australian coal, meat, wine and key dairy exports and all other industrial goods of interest to Australia. The FTA will strengthen commercial links between Australia and Chile.

A key Chilean implementing agency for the FTA is the General Directorate of International Economic Affairs in the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs (known as DIRECON).
