Australia-Japan Free Trade Agreement‚ Thirteenth Negotiating Round
Newsletter Update 13
18 January 2012
The thirteenth round of negotiations on the Australia-Japan Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was held in Canberra from 20-22 December 2011.
This was the first round held since the devastating Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of March 2011.
In this round, useful discussions were had and several articles were agreed across a number of FTA chapters including rules of origin (ROO), customs procedures, technical barriers to trade (TBT) and sanitary and phytosanitary issues (SPS). In goods market access discussions both sides continued to work through positions and sensitivities.
The fourteenth round of FTA negotiations will be held in Tokyo from 14-17 February 2012.
We welcome input on issues of relevance to the Australia-Japan FTA negotiations. For further information, please email JapanFTA@dfat.gov.au.
