Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement negotiations

Third Round of Negotiations

The third round of Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement negotiations was held in Sydney on 24-25 May 2012. Negotiations were divided into working groups on: Goods; Investment; and Legal and Other Issues.

On market access for goods, both sides engaged constructively on highlighting and clarifying respective priorities. Progress was achieved on the chapter on trade in goods. The Investment Working Group exchanged views on approaches to improve the investment environment. The Legal and Other Issues Working Group discussed approaches to framework provisions (including dispute resolution) and other cross cutting issues.

As some Indian leads were unable to attend the third round, both sides agreed to engage intersessionally on services, rules of origin, customs procedures, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) issues, and technical barriers to trade (TBT).

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade encourages interested parties to lodge a submission on the Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement.
