This report is the Secretary’s account to the Minister for Foreign Affairs
and the Minister for Trade on the performance of the Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade and the Australian Agency for International Development
(AusAID) during the financial year 1998–99.
Its preparation is in accordance with the Department of Prime Minister
and Cabinet’s Requirements for Departmental Annual Reports of June
1999, which draws on the legislative requirements set out in the Public
Service Act 1922. Information and statistics cover the financial year
1998–99, or relate to the situation as at 30 June 1999.
This report is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 is the report of the
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, while Volume 2 is AusAID’s report.
Each volume comprises five sections (Table 1).
