L-R: Mr J T (Jack) Smith ISO, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Rudd, Mr F B (Barry) Hall at an event celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Department of External Affairs and 110th anniversary of the Department of Trade and Customs. Mr Smith joined the Department of Commerce, the forerunner of the Department of Trade, in 1937. Mr Hall joined the first intake of Department of External Affairs cadets in 1943.

Aboriginal dancers perform in front of St Peter's Basilica at the Vatican Museum on 15 October 2010. The performance took place after the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Rudd, opened an exhibition of Aboriginal art in the Vatican Museum ahead of the canonisation of Australia's first saint, Mary MacKillop.
