Public understanding in Australia and overseas of Australia's foreign and trade policy and a positive image of Australia internationally

Using funds provided under the department’s Direct Aid Program, the high commission in Accra, Ghana contributed to the purchase of a Scan Optics microscope (made in Adelaide). The microscope was donated to the eye clinic at Kete Krachi Hospital and will allow local doctors to perform cataract operations. The Australian high commission in London helped organise a live acoustic performance by the Bardi Dancers, who live 200 kilometres north of Broome in Western Australia, at this spectacular and historic location in the United Kingdom. The high commission used the performance to underscore the connection between a living community and its spiritual and cultural traditions, which is a key point in our advocacy seeking the return to Indigenous communities in Australia of ancestral remains held in the United Kingdom.
